Acupuncture & Laser Therapy

with Dr. Nancy Tharp, DVM, CVA, CCRT at Veterinary Healing Arts LLC

Acupuncture has been used in veterinary medicine for over 3000 years and can be used by itself or in combination with western medical treatments and medications. Laser therapy (also known as Photobiomodulation) uses laser light to penetrate deep within tissues to stimulate physiologic processes at the cellular level.

Acupuncture can treat...

  • Acute or chronic pain from illness or injury
  • Musculoskeletal conditions such as osteoarthritis, hip or elbow dysplasia, torn tendons or ligaments
  • Neurologic conditions such as intervertebral disk disease, nerve injury or paralysis
  • Gastrointestinal conditions such as vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, inflammatory bowel disease
  • Urinary tract diseases such as urinary incontinence, kidney disease
  • Cardiovascular and respiratory diseases
  • Other conditions such as behavior problems, immune system stimulation, palliative therapy for cancer pain and side effects of radiation or chemotherapy.

Benefits of Laser Therapy:

  • Pain relief
  • Improves nerve function
  • Reduces inflammation and swelling
  • Accelerates wound and tissue repair
  • Improves blood circulation
  • Reduces scar tissue formation
  • Can be used to stimulate acupuncture points instead of using needles

When used together in the same treatment, laser therapy is synergistic with acupuncture and enhances the anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving effects of acupuncture.

About Anesthesia-Free Dental Cleanings:

K-9 Smile provides the service of anesthesia – free teeth cleaning for dogs and cats. Their trained technicians clean your pet’s teeth under supervision of a licensed veterinarian. It is always up to the veterinarian whether your pet is a candidate for the service. This is not intended to replace a dental under anesthesia but rather to be part of your pet’s dental plan.

Periodontal disease is dangerous for pets, and in some cases is known to take two years off of a pet’s life if left untreated. It only takes several weeks for plaque to start building up on your pet’s teeth.

If left unchecked, periodontal disease will grow rapidly. A study of 52 miniature schnauzers showed that 98% of the dogs had developed some level of periodontitis within 30 weeks of stopping toothbrushing.

About Wellness Exams, Vaccines & Heartworm Prevention:

Visiting a veterinarian regularly ensures that any health problems your pet might be experiencing are caught as early as possible! K9 Smiles offers mobile veterinary services alongside their anesthesia-free dental cleanings so you can check all your pets’ needs off in one visit!

Keeping your dog or cat current on vaccinations offers numerous benefits for their health and overall well-being. Vaccinations protect your furry companion from potentially life-threatening diseases like rabies, parvovirus, distemper, and more. By preventing these illnesses, you not only save your dog from unnecessary suffering but also save on costly veterinary treatments.

Regular vaccinations also contribute to community health by reducing the spread of contagious diseases. Moreover, maintaining up-to-date vaccinations can ensure a longer and happier life for your pet, allowing them to enjoy a vibrant and active lifestyle while fostering a stronger bond between you and your four-legged friend.

PLEASE NOTE:

There are some scenarios where a pet might not be able to receive anesthesia-free dental treatment. K9 Smiles reserves the right to turn down any pet with heart conditions, severe gum disease and/or loose teeth, or behavior issues such as biting and overly stressed. If your pet has a heart murmur, we recommend that you consult with your veterinarian on their options.
